How do I import contacts from my previous database?

I tried to import contacts from Outlook, but although I could see the option on the screen in Tnt, it was not highlighted so I could choose it.  I am using Outlook 2011 on a Mac.  Any idea what I could do differently?  Thanks!

You have to import the MPD Phase as a number.  The values are listed here:  www.tntware.com/.../what-are-all-the-contact-import-fields.aspx

I am trying to import contacts via a CSV file, but the MPD phase which I am assigning to each contact, does not seem to be being transferred over? Any idea why? Does it usually import over OK into TNT, or has this field not been given the same level import footing as the other ones?

Currently the import feature is designed for adding contacts only.  As an after thought I allowed updating a limited number of fields, but email didn't make it.  Updaing email from a CSV is currently not possible.

I tried important a CSV file to update the email fields for my contacts. We were using Gmail for our eNewsletter list. I exported that into a CSV file. I then imported that file in TnTMPD on Mac 10.5. Using "Match Existing Contacts", TntMPD successfully matched my CSV to my current contacts in TNT, but then would not update the email field from the CSV file to TnTMPD.

It was like the From did not map to the To for Email1, Email2, or mobile phone. The name would be updated, but not any other information. If I choose not to match contacts, and instead imported them as a New Contact, all the information (name, email address and phone number) was imported correctly.

Any thoughts? Am I trying to do something that isn't possible in updating contact information from a CSV file?

You can export your tasks and history to Excel from the Task or History view.  But TntMPD doesn't currently provide a way to import them.

Is there a way to export the history and tasks of a contact in one database and import them to another? It seems everything moves over with the Text export/import process except the history and tasks.

TntMPD can import from CSV and from Outlook.  I'm not sure if iClould can export contacts to a CSV file, but I do know that iCloud can synchronize contacts with Outlook.  So you might be able to get them into TntMPD via Outlook.

Can we import contacts from iCloud?

Nevermind. Logged in today and got it to work! I think I did the exact same thing, not sure what the difference was.

I have my database in CSV and the "To" column filled in. I hit import and I get an error message saying "A first, last or organization name must be entered for this contact. No records were imported."

I don't understand and can't seem to get around this problem. Any ideas?

Hi Mike,  I updated the article.  Great idea!

Could there be a example csv available to download from this article with all available import fields present and populated with 20ish rows of sample data (toontown database?). That way us newcomers could open it in excel and use it as a pro-forma for massaging our data into the correct form and using the correct titles to make the mapping stage seamless. It would also allow us to see which fields needed to be true/false entries and visually see the list of all possible fields in a correct layout.

Then I could use that as a basis to just keep the titles and copy & paste all my data in, deleting any coloums I don't require.

Thanks

Mike

TntMPD can only import from CSV.   From Excel, you can [File \ Save As] to save your Excel spreadsheet as a CSV file.

can I import directly from Excel to TNT?
