About TntWare
This is exciting news for me! I've been trying to set up a usable sync with Gsyncit, and I guess it's working, but syncing different contact groups seems tricky, and I really don't like using Outlook! I hope version 3.1 comes out soon!

I'm hoping that TntMPD 3.1 will remove the need for Outlook completely for syncing contacts, tasks, calendar, and even for dragging in email into history. I can't say when I anticipate it as this point.
Thanks for the input, Troy. I'm no longer tied to Outlook (using Google for e-mail and calendar, and Toodledo for tasks), but I recently purchased it for the drag and drop to TNT history feature. Are you saying that TntMPD 3.1 will remove the need for this as well (drag and drop email to history?). When do you anticipate release of 3.1? Thanks, Troy!
Taimyr
Hi Taimyr, I had never researched an individual buying Google Apps, since Campus Crusade for Christ has a big corporate account that I'm under. You mentioned stewardship, and generally anything that has a *monthly* charge to it causes me to really look for alternatives. $20 for GSyncIt sounds a lot better to me, assuming it works well.
You can definitely setup a free Gmail account in Outlook using IMAP. I have a free Gmail account as well, and I do exactly this.
But even if you go with GSyncIt, be aware that it may be a temporary solution if you're only using it because you need TntMPD to sync with Google Contacts Tasks and Calendar (and not because you *like* to use Outlook for it's own merits). TntMPD 3.1 is going to make the need to use Outlook go away in terms of syncing with Google.
Troy, I realized that GsyncIt will sync google tasks, calendars, and notes, but will not sync e-mail. I'd still be curious on your take or other's take on the possibility of this being a more affordable sync solution for TNT <--> Outlook (GSyncIt for tasks, calendars, and notes, and using IMAP to sync e-mail). Anywhere those of us on support can be better stewards is a good thing! Thanks!
Hi, Troy. Thanks for this article. Excited about these possibilities, as I just purchased the new version of Outlook. The Google Apps option for syncing looks like it's a great idea, but unless I'm missing something, it's a little pricey IMHO. I believe you have to be a Google apps for Business customer, right? That's $5 / month for each user, which for me and my wife, means $120 a year. I may have to go that route anyway, but I'm wondering if you have any knowledge of or experience with GSyncIt (www.fieldstonsoftware.com/.../gsyncit3) It seems to have pretty good reviews on Google Apps Marketplace, and it's signifcantly cheaper ($19.99 one-time). Any thoughts? Thanks!
From my experience, mobile data (Contacts/Reminders/Calendar) on my iPhone can get me by for a few days (which is wonderful considering the alternative ... printed notes, etc.) But every day or so, I need to get back into TntMPD on a PC (or Mac) to regroup and restrategize. I have a MacBook Air, and it's the best portable computer I've ever owned. With enough RAM (8GB) it can run virtual machines (Parallels or VMware) just fine. This allows you to use TntMPD for Mac just to quick look something up. But also, you can pull up TntMPD on the virtual machine to sync with Outlook (contacts, tasks, calendar ... or drag-n-drop email to/from partners).
I did a lot of work in TntMPD 3.0 to get it to look good on a Surface Pro tablet (typical resolution of a new Windows 8 tablet). But I personally found the tablet experience of TntMPD awkward without a keyboard and/or Mouse/Trackpad. So I stuck with an iPad for my tablet and a MacBook Air for my laptop. It's nice that my iPhone and iPad have my TntMPD contact/tasks/calendar synced.
I travel a lot when support raising and I need to constantly update my notes in TntMPD. I use iPhone and iPad on the road. It is cumbersome to bring my mac laptop (although I suppose I could get a Mac Air laptop). I have 30,000 emails in Apple Mail and 800 contacts. I want to sync between my iPhone and Outlook PC with TntMPD...tasks, emails related to my donors, I also need to constantly update TNTmpd as i travel on personal support raising trips.
Is it better to get a small touch tablet PC running Windows 8 and dedicate it solely to TntMPD and Outlook/MS Access/Skype for dealing with donor communications? What I am asking is whether the user experience is any smoother on the Windows side of the equation or is running it on the Mac with Outlook for PC(with Parallel) works just as well?
Jessica, I'm afraid this only works with Outlook on the PC (or on a Mac via VMware/Parallels).
Thanks again Troy! One more question-I just downloaded Outlook (the installed desktop software) for Mac. Is there a way to make the sync work now?
Hi Jessica, I'm afraid TntMPD doesn't sync with the microsoft 365-outlook web app. --Troy
Thanks Troy. I am currently making the switch from a PC to a MAC. I had my contacts synced on the PC through outlook. If I am using microsoft 365-outlook web app is there any way to keep syncing contacts now that I am switching to the MAC?
Hi Jessica, you probably need to install the iCloud control panel, and you need to tell it to synchronize "contacts, calendar and tasks with Outlook". --Troy
Maybe I am missing something but I am having trouble understanding how to get my contacts to sync to my iPhone. The only outlook profile option I have is for my outlook so I am not seeing an iCloud option. Is there a step I am missing?
That link refers to "Google Sync" not "Google Apps Sync". Google Sync is a email sync protocol for mobile devices. Google Apps Sync is an Outlook add-on to synchronize Email, Contacts, Tasks and Calendar with Google Apps accounts.
