Exporting Contact Information

Print this Topic Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

You can only export the Current Group. If you want to export only a portion of the contacts in the Current Group, create a new lookup that will identify just those you want to export.

Tutorial: Exporting a Current Group

1.Create the group you want to export.
2.Select File | Export Current Group or Group Actions | Export Current Group (same thing).
3.Select the fields you want to export. (Press Save Default Fields to remember the selected fields for next time.)

4.Press OK.

5.Press the desired output button.

The export creates extra sheets in Excel with a Pie Chart and a Bar Chart. These seem to greatly slow the export.  Is there a way to turn that off?

I ran a test.  My current group had 1,400 contacts, and I selected all fields.  The addition of charts made the entire process about 3% slower.  The bulk of the time is creating the Excel worksheet itself.

i tried to export this, and then import it into Numbers for Mac, but then it told me that it needed an Excel file of '97 or newer. Is there anyway to get an csv or a vcard export file? That would make it a lot more compatible across platforms.

Thanks!

Andrew

Hi Andrew, if you click "Export" instead of "Excel" it will export a CSV text file.

Is there a way to export more than one group at a time to the same excel document?

Amy --

The "Export to Excel" link works the same as it does with any software that exports to Excel--each export initiates a new document in Excel. But if you want to export two groups, then you should lookup the two groups, then export it as one group. If you want to keep them separate *after* reporting, then your best bet is to export them to two separate Excel files, then copy and paste one to the other.

I understand how to do the copy and paste, that may be easiest.  Can you create a "saved group" - using 2 different groups, and still keep them separate?  I am trying to mail merge labels for several groups into one document, so I can sort by zip codes.

One other question you may know, How can I access my TNT account from a different computer than it was set up on.

I have downloaded TNT to the new computer - but asking me to create a new database.

Thanks!

These are good questions for the Forum--where many people can read and answer your questions. You have downloaded TntMPD, but you need to move the *database* to the other computer, the same way you might copy Word Documents or photos from one computer to the other. But this questions is already answered in the Help Guides, or in the Forum. I don't mean to defer you (but I'm off to the airport), so if you go to the Forum someone will answer your questions, or I will in a day or two!

Is the ability to export no longer in the mac version?  I don't see that option anywhere?  Thanks

It's still in the Mac version.  Maybe start a new post on the forums if you're still having issues and give more details.

I would like to export to Excel a list of my contacts that have appointments. I want the address and contact information in the excel worksheet along with the details of the appointment that I have put in the task-appointment windows. Is there a way to do this? What are the merge fields for the notes that I write in the task-appointment window and the merge fields for the date and time and I could create my own document.  Or, is there a way to add merge fields to the current default export from the task window?

You can export the task list to Excel, then do a lookup of the contacts with those tasks, and then you can export the contacts to Excel.  You just can't (as of this writing) export the task list with address info included.

I cannot find "Exporting Contact information" under the File tab anymore. What happened?

w84, look for "Export Current Group".  If you're on a Mac, make sure you're looking at the "File" menu on the main TntConnect window.

Is there a way to export the contacts city, state & Zip together into one cell in excel instead of three separate cell columns? Thanks

Sort of.  The "Mailing Address Block" combines everything, but it also includes Full Name and Street Address.

I can only see import contacts for mac on crossover, there's no option anywhere to export the group to a csv or any other options/formats.

Nevermind, I didn't realize you had to look up the specific group and then you can export it, I was trying to do it from just the group tab.  User error! Thanks
